Using a Sola Wood Flower or reed diffuser is a simple and inexpensive way to disperse aroma oil in your home or office, without using electricity, heat or candles. The rate of evaporation is fairly slow, so reed diffusers can last several months on just a few ounces of diffuser oil. But what if you want something a little more stylish than plain reeds? The sola flower will be the best choice.
Sola is a thin, paper-like, flexible wood similar to balsa, but much more delicate and flexible than balsa.
Sola wood flower are made from a plant called Aeschynomene aspera. It’s a plant that grows wild in marsh areas. Because it grows quickly, it is a renewable resource and one of the lightest known woods.
The plant has a layer of bark that covers the internal, cork-like center of the plant (called the ‘cream’). In most flowers, the bark is stripped and the center is made into thin sheets. It is these sheets that are hand-cut to make sola wood flowers.
Sometimes, the bark is left on before the creation of sheets, creating a unique two-tone effect on the flower. These are called ‘bark’ or ‘skin flowers’.
Sola Wood is a popular material used by artisans around the world to create beautiful handicrafts, because it is flexible yet strong enough to be molded, bent and curled into various shapes and forms. It’s depand on your perfume formula and wicking properties, the airflow of the room. In general, one flower diffuser will last for 1 to 2 months of continuous use in a 150ml bottles. Remember that once you use the flower for a particular scent, it is not recommended to use it for a different scent, mixing scents is not recommended. Similarly, using multiple oil colors on one flower is not recommended. The flower will take on the color qualities of the diffuser oil being used and once a flower absorbs a particular color, changing to a different color could cause unusual coloring.
