When the reed diffuser not work, how we should fix it?

Reed diffusers are the most convenient and decorative air fresheners because they scent at any space effectively without electricity or heat. When the reed diffuser cannot release it’s fragrance, you may think it’s not working. Before you throw it away you may wan to give it another look.

What we can do in this situation? This article will tell you why reed diffusers are not working and possible solutions to these problems.

 1. The reeds are clogged.

With completely normal use, these reed stick can become clogged with dust or debris. This clogging can happen for a variety of reasons, including airborne dust, turning the reeds with unclean hands, or even left-behind residue from the fragrance oil as it evaporates.

A clogged diffuser stick will struggle to absorb the essential oil from the glass bottle because the capillary system is partially or completely blocked. So if the reed stick are---in fact---clogged, the scent may smell week (for a partial clog) or disappear completely (If fully clogged).

How to fix it?

1. Flipped the reeds

You can try to flipped the reeds weekly like twice a week. This is the standard for a fresh and consistent scent. Flipping the reeds can also loosen the dust or debris clogging while exposing any unused areas of the reeds to essential oils, making it the easiest solution to this issue.

 2. Replace the reeds

If turning the reeds doesn’t revitalize the fragrance, these particular reeds stick may simply be too clogged to work effectively. Replace the order reeds with new high-quality reeds stick and see if the aroma returns. You can buy the replace is our story. It have rattan stick and fiber stick 2 choose for you.

2. The Oil Is Too Thick

The reed diffuser’s oil is typically a blend of carrier, essential and synthetic fragrance oil. However, something as simple as the viscosity (or thickness) of this oil could render a reed diffuser virtually useless.

The reason behind this is simple. The thicker the oil, the harder it is for the reed diffuser stick to absorb or pick it up and allow it to travel the length of the reeds---through the tubes we mentioned earlier to evaporate.

Oils that are too thick may weaken the smell of your diffuser for two main reasons. For one, the oil may never flow completely end-to-end, greatly limiting the amount of oil exposed to the air for diffusion. Second, thicker oils generally take longer to evaporate, slowing the diffusion process.

How to fixed it?

1.Dilute the oil

Please try diluting the essential oil with a few drops of a dilute carrier oil such as frationated coconut oil or mineral oil. Stir in the oil and repeat until the oil is diluted to your liking without diluting the fragrance too much.

2. Replace the oil

The oil itself may be too thick for the reed to absorb properly (or at all). Replace the oil to a high-quality reed diffuser oil made from a thinner base oil.

3. Add more reeds.

This last-resort “fix” forces to revisit the concept of surface area, and it only works if the reed is at least somewhat spread out. Adding more reeds to the container will increase the surface area and maximize the reed’s absorptive capacity, but the aroma may still be week

We recommend to use “Rattan Reed” because the rattan stick are suitable for the oil base diffuser liquids especially high density oil base diffuser liquids.

3. The container (Diffuser Bottle) is too large

A container that is too large in diameter will cause an imbalance in the oil to reed ratio. Since the reed can only absorb oil so quickly and since the oil level won’t be as high due to the width of the jar, less oil-saturated reed surface area is exposed to air evaporation

On the other hand, reeds may not touch the bottom of a reed diffuser bottle that is too high. Without touching the base, the reed many not absorb essential oil effectively.

How to fix it?

1. Add more reeds

Adding more reed diffuser stick to the container slightly increase the surface area of the oil-immersed reeds exposed to air.

2.Choose the bigger diameter and higher reed diffuser stick.

If your reed diffuser has a large capacity like 200ml, 250ml or 500ml, you can choose a large diameter diffuser reeds like 5mm, 6mm, 7mm, 8mm etc. Large diameter can better absorb and transmit the oil.
